THE SCIENCE OF PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT |

Personality is constant throughout life. People are something more than a body and a mind. Animals also have body and mind; they have brains, they think and feel. But human beings turn towards their surroundings, in a free and conscious way. They’re able to act even against their instincts. Upon encounter with this world individuals turn to their human side. They become a person who is capable of thinking about himself, of changing his vital direction, controlling himself, surpassing himself and of surrendering himself for a cause. The person is a shared phenomenon and transcends beyond the individuality towards others. The personality is the set of permanent psychic features that characterize the subject. Personality is the way of feeling, thinking and relating to others. It develops during the first years of our life until adolescence, and remains constant with little change throughout life. The personality is equivalent to the psychobiological machinery that makes us who we are. While the personality is invariable, a person is not. An individual is the living personality who is turned towards the world. It is the machinery that we have inside us. The person is a continuous and transforming event of the world, guided by personal values. A person is a living and free being, who decides to persevere or surrender, to subjugate or yield, to respond or to be silent. The personality does not change with time, but the person does. The person develops and grows in all periods of life, especially in childhood and adolescence. He also grows through all the life crises and all the important moments of our lives. The person develops and changes throughout life. The force that makes development and personal growth possible through life crises is the meaning of being. The biological and psychological life does not need more sense than the natural life impulse and instinct of survival. While personal life is guided by a more complex sense, loaded with values – it makes such a personal life a project. The personality is biological and psychological, while the person is constituted by the values and by the sense. Personal developmentPersonal development is the path through which the individual grows in values and attitudes that will lead him to deploy as a free being in a surrounding world. The ultimate goal of personal development is one's happiness and that of others. The meaning or purpose of personal development is not to be the strongest, but to be a better person. The self-image or identitySelf-image or identity is the experience of oneself - how we see ourselves and how we feel about ourselves. The knowledge of our inside is fundamental to have a stable and solid self-image adjusted to our reality. The psychological strengthPsychological strength is obtained when a balance is achieved between the needs and the autonomy of the subject; when the person is able to be autonomous and dependent on others at the same time. The development of self-acceptance, tolerance to frustration, assertiveness and emotional communication are the foundation of psychological strength. The valuesValues originate both from our own biology; which incorporates all human history stored in our brain, and from learning in our childhood and adolescence. Values guide our behaviors and our strategies. Values imply a worldview of human relationships and our own being in the world. The value of compassion is opposed to destruction, solidarity to egoism, personal effort to immediate merit, dignity to relativism, and a broad list of values. Some values produce a greater happiness to the person and in turn make that individual more positive for the world that accompanies him. The meaningThe meaning of personal life is something more than the instinct of survival. It carries with it the experience of overcoming, harmony with the world, taking advantage of oneself and the fulfillment of moral duty. The meaning is closely linked to our representation of the world and ourselves. We see and feel our image projected into the future, and that image draws our personality towards it. Meaning is something that pulls us towards life in relation to others. Without cooperative human values, the ego becomes the meaning of life. The ego as meaning is a path of desperation to avoid death. Author Bio:Amirah Almousa is a passionate writer who loves to write on prevailing issues related to self-development.
